Mt.Anif/Mulligan 7/23/11

These chutes have been tempting us forever. This is the view from my street showing the tasty lines to be had. We called it the White Ass couloir. Since the elevation is so low the avy danger is high mid winter whenever we get a good dump of snow.
Today however, great corn snow conditions prevailed. Bob, his brother in law from Japan and myself had a nice outing.
Drove up to the snow line in about 20 minutes of 4x4

Later we go down to the beach to watch the kite boarders rip it up.

Heartstrings 4/14/11

Spring skiing season is upon us now and the warmer temps and longer days make for great times.
This year the snow pack is 130% of normal so there are simply fantastic conditions.
Heartstrings at Joffre lakes is a run that has been on my tick list for a while and turned out to be everything I hoped.
Bob and I found stunning snow all over. On the run down it's amazing being surrounded by rock monoliths.

Metaldome 4/3/11

Trip up to Metaldome which none of us had ever been to before. Thats another great thing about living here - there are so many places to go within an hours drive.
The approach kind of sucks with a logging road skin for an hour or so. Then follow a creek or two, then break into the alpine.

Bob is happy to celebrate his 40th ski day this season.

The snow conditions were slabby and breakable so we turned back and skied some lower aspects.

Even did some avy beacon searches.

Wedgemont 3/27/11

I said i'd never be back but I spoke too soon.
Wedge Mountain metes out equal doses pain and pleasure. Pain is the 1200 meters elevation gain in 7km up to the hut in 5 hr. We were up on our high heel risers almost the whole time.
Pleasure is the 1 1/2 hr run down.
Route finding was challenging.
But the views are outstanding and sense of fulfillment complete.
Bob the Machine had never been there before but I'm sure he will return soon as he likes this sort of punishment.
To increase our heart rates a little more, it gets steeper at the end.

This is why we came.
No one had been here for a while as we had to shovel a bit to get in.
Writing in the hut logbook.
Even with the huge snowfall this year, you have to be careful where to step. You could fit a car into this crevasse.

3 interesting chutes

1st day back

Another scar for my collection. A burst appendix had me laid up for the last 6 weeks. My bloated gut was tender for a lot of that time.
We have been getting pounded with fresh snow - 1.5 meters this past week. The team have been getting in some epic days while I've been a good boy staying at home only waxing my skis and looking wistfully at the snow covered peaks around here.
Well the wait is over and it's time to get some myself.
Avy debris had closed the road a day earlier.
Bob J. , Nicky Nick and I went up to Cerise Creek to ski some of Mt. Joffres shoulders. What a day it was! Powder galore. Big flakes a fallin.
I am so out of shape after not exercising at all for 6 weeks and really sucked ass going uphill. The boys were kind enough to wait and I tried not to be a liability. Sure felt good to be back.
