12/4/09 Kiras first ski

I took my 4 1/2 year old daughter skiing for the first time today. Four runs down with my help and instruction then she pushed me away and went solo when we were halfway down. No warning no fear. I was very surprised! Then she did four more solo runs, each time faster.
It's been my dream since she was born to see her take her first solo run. My heart still soars when I think of it.
I hope her love for the outdoors and adventure brings us many happy memories together in the future.

Hut drop 11/29/09

Since we have been skiing when we should have been finishing the hut, taking advantage of higher freezing levels, we had to take the last of the materials in by ski. We paid the price when we picked a terrible day to go in due to super heavy and deep snow. In the end we had to drop the materials short of our destination. Oh well next time we'll go in via the winter route and finish things off.
Turn away lest your eyes burn from my hideousness.
Dropping our loads.

Whistler 11/21/09

Lots of snow has fallen, many lines have been skied. Nick, Kevin the Irish plumber and I hit Whistler for some easy runs. I measured a 200cm base, so not too shabby for November. Next week we hit the Duffy for some big lines I hope.

We shredded the trees pretty good.
Nick tries out the new helmet cam.
They say I'm positively sparkling in my yellow suit. Nice to be back on my fat skis, Icelantic Shamans. They rock!

Paul Ridge 11/15/09

2 weeks ago we had to walk for an hour to the snow line. Now there is good coverage from the start. 2 meters now up top in blizzard conditions today

I'm sporting my new North Face one piece. Definately high visibility. I derided Nick for years for wearing them but decided to try it for myself. Works great.

Dumping good!

Elfin Lakes 11/1/09

Nick and I went for our first ski of the season up to the Elfin Lakes cabin. Very excited to strap the planks on again. 22km round trip. Silly times ensued. They have built a nice new 3 person shitter up there.

The hut

For the past few weekends we have been constructing our pirate hut on one of our favourite mountains. With the Olympic nazis going to be coming down hard on any backcountry activities around Whistler, we didn't want to miss out on fresh powder days. Once the roof is painted camo, it's going to be invisible and should be mostly covered in snow by Feb. So the military, cops and other VANOC heavies can go fuck themselves. We will ski.

Cornfest '09 Rexs Pillar

Well it turned out to be more of a slushfest , however good times were had and steep chutes were skied. We have part 2 planned for the summer solstice when we'll get an earlier start...

A strange sort of character is attracted to these parts in the spring time. This Lemming like call of the stoke is too hard to resist for some of us.
Rexs Pillar looms large under blue skys.
A very scenic place.
