Today though was going to be different. The weather forecast was very favourable, the snow conditions good, the daylight lasts until 10pm and we were feeling strong.
The sun was very strong and the day proved to be bluebird skies. I had a few problems with my skins but nothing that was going to stop me this time. Later when we set up our camp we saw the lenticular cloud above G-Bal. Oh shit! That is going to be bad news. The clouds rolled in and the winds started. My little tarp tent shook all night long and we didn't get any sleep. In the morning rain and visibility was 3 metres. Crap foiled again.
Luckily I have been here so many times I was able to know where to go but it was still a bit stressful skiing down with no reference to up, down or left/right.
To top it off when we returned to the snowline where we had walked up to we found out some cock faced loser had stolen our shoes so we had to walk down to the car in our ski boots.
But all in all it was an enjoyable time. Probably about 20km round trip.
pristine. i remember being in calgary a few years ago for the stampede and i couldn't believe it was 1030PM and there i was sitting on my balcony, drinking a beer, and its still light out. it is incredible the amount of things you can get done with that many hours of daylight. it also makes you feel great. here in AZ, the light starts fading around 7-730.
ReplyDeleteBut i will say, it is a pretty funny dichotomy between you in your hammock and me in mine. i busted out my eagles nest hammock this weekend. set it up using two palm trees next to the pool in 100+ temps, lol!
